Don’t miss this opportunity to improve your playwriting skills in this series of workshops by Cultural Medallion recipient Haresh Sharma, Resident Playwright of The Necessary Stage, and one of Singapore’s most well respected and prolific writers!

This six-session playwriting workshop will guide up to 15 participants through the elements of playwriting, character creation, and research and development. The course will incorporate lectures, discussions and sharing sessions, with an emphasis on practical work—writing. Each participant will also have a one-to-one clinic with Haresh on the script they are working on. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a deeper understanding of various aspects and styles of theatre and playwriting, and would have created short plays through research into a social issue of concern and relevance to them.

All sessions will be held on Saturdays 30 May to 11 July 2020, 2pm to 5pm.

The workshop is free for selected participants. Successful candidates can also apply for the National Arts Council’s Capability Development Scheme for the Arts (CDSA), which can provide an absentee payroll or training allowance of $10/hour. More information is available via the webpage here..

Applicants must fulfil the following prerequisites:

  • 16 years old and above.
  • Have a keen interest in playwriting.
  • As the sessions will build on each other, and writing exercises will be given at every session, participants must commit to attending all six sessions to get the most out of it.

Interested candidates must submit the following:

  • Statement of Purpose (around 250 words) on why you're interested in this course, and what you hope to achieve from attending it.
  • Sample of Script (around 500 words).
