Aside from workshops helmed by Resident Playwright and Cultural Medallion recipient Haresh Sharma, we are thrilled to announce a brand-new single-session workshop on Don't Know, Don't Care, featured in the Singapore play anthology Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed which is currently being taught in schools for the lower secondary levels.

BASIC PLAYWRITING WORKSHOP

Suitable for Upper Secondary, JC/CI, and ITE Students
Recommended Class Size: 8 to 12
Conducted by Cultural Medallion recipient Haresh Sharma, the Basic Playwriting Workshop is a course that has been designed to enable students to create short plays through research of a social issue of concern and relevance to them. The course will incorporate lectures and discussions, with an emphasis on practical work—writing.

DEVISING THROUGH IMPROVISATION

Suitable for Lower and Upper Secondary, JC/CI, and ITE Students
Recommended Class Size: 12 to 15
Led by award-winning playwright and Cultural Medallion recipient Haresh Sharma, this Devising Through Improvisation workshop takes students through an engaging and inspiring learning journey through devising techniques, character creation, and narrative development.
Drawing from The Necessary Stage’s unique devising methodology honed over almost four decades, Haresh will empower students with practical tools to create original theatre about issues resonant to their lives.
Students will unlock their curiosity and imagination as they work in and across groups, sharpen their questioning skills to guide their devising process, and strengthen their creativity and collaborative abilities in the process. They'll also gain essential playwriting techniques to turn raw improvisations into powerful, original performances.
The workshop culminates with the students presenting their final work-in-progress, followed by an in-depth discussion of the play and creative process.

DON'T KNOW, DON'T CARE: PLAY READING & DISCUSSION

Haresh Sharma’s acclaimed play Don’t Know, Don’t Care is a powerful story about a family coping with caregiving and terminal illness. A young boy takes it upon himself to care for his dying grandfather but is told by his mother to not get involved. Can a time of illness allow a family to share a bond and experience joy? The much-loved play is published in
, designed for lower secondary students. It is commonly selected as a literature text to introduce young students to plays. Its positive and heart-warming message of family togetherness and love makes for valuable learning moments in the classroom. With this hour-long programme, students will be able to engage with the themes and characters of the play. They will also be able to share their views of the play through a facilitated discussion.
